Can One AI Agent Autonomously Discover, Pay and Buy From Another?
Short answer
Parts of the full flow have been proven with real money and real service execution, but our strict end-to-end proof remains incomplete.
We have observed real paid machine-service execution, AI-controlled wallet purchases and machine-readable results. We have not yet completed the strongest version of the experiment in which an independent buyer receives only a goal, budget and risk policy, discovers candidates, queries evidence, selects the seller, pays and continues its task without a human naming or steering the provider.
What counts as the strict proof
For this project, the strongest sequence is: buyer receives a goal; identifies an external capability; discovers candidates without a human naming the seller; compares offers and evidence; applies bounded spend/risk policy; pays; seller performs work; buyer validates the result; buyer continues its original task.
Virtuals Agent Commerce Protocol
Atinamos registered atinamos_render_check at 0.25 USDC with a five-minute SLA and machine-readable input/output definitions. A real ACP job completed successfully and escrow was released.
Supports: Atinamos can function as a paid provider inside ACP.
Does not yet support: an independent buyer autonomously discovered and selected Atinamos without provider preselection.
x402 and Coinbase Bazaar
Atinamos exposed Render Check through an HTTP-native x402 payment flow and has been discoverable through Coinbase/x402 Bazaar data. x402 provides a strong payment-before-work pattern.
Supports: machine-payable HTTP services and discovery can be combined.
Remaining gap: neutral-goal buyer orchestration through autonomous selection.
Circle agent wallet experiments
A Circle-controlled buyer wallet with bounded spending policies purchased an external Notte service for 0.015 USDC and received a machine-readable result.
A later guided experiment used external ResolveBots evidence to nominate x402Node JSON Repair. A live check established the current executable contract, the buyer was capped at 0.01 USDC, 0.006 USDC was paid and the service returned repaired JSON that satisfied the task.
Supports: a policy-constrained AI-controlled wallet can make real external machine purchases and validate output.
Limitation: orchestration and candidate nomination were still human-guided.
Society AI
Society AI successfully invoked the self-hosted Atinamos agent and routed work into the existing Render Check runtime. However, the tested platform state did not enforce creator settlement, successful calls did not reduce the buyer balance, and the observed calls originated from the human-facing chat with no delegating agent recorded.
Supports: agent-network messaging and remote execution worked.
Does not support: paid autonomous procurement.
Current conclusion
Real machine payments and real paid machine-service fulfilment are already possible. Fully autonomous procurement — neutral goal to independent discovery, evidence-informed selection, payment and task continuation — is the remaining proof target.
The next decisive experiment should place Atinamos Verification in the buyer's decision loop and measure whether independent evidence changes the chosen seller or allowed spend.
